RS General Broadcast

This post is mostly for me, but if you would like to, read on.
Last night was the Relief Society General Broadcast and it was so good. President Dieter F Uchtdorf
was the concluding speaker and he spoke on something I definitely needed to hear, and I am sure a lot of females have a problem with. He started out talking about how his wife will make these grand dinners and yet still point out small things that she could have done differently. And he makes eggs and feels heroic. He points out that women tend to focus too much on our imperfections rather than what we have accomplished. He said that comes from our desire to serve the Lord to the best of our abilities. I was amazed at how right on he was. I expect perfection from myself and perfection is just not possible. I am pretty sure I am not the only female that beats myself up over my imperfections rather than focusing on the things I have accomplished. He spoke of two things we can do to feel better and focus on accomplishment. Creativity and compassion. He explained that creating means making something that did not exist before. It could be memories or a garden or a feeling. He told us not to let the fear of failure discourage us. I know I let that discourage me a lot. On the compassion side he said those how bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves. As we serve our lives are brighter. I really enjoyed his talk and it came at a time that I actually really needed it. I was really glad that I went and walked away with such a great feeling. He is definitely an inspired servant of the Lord. One of the concluding comments he made was,"Greatness has little to do with outward prosperity or position." As women and as perfectionists, we would all do well to remember that.
