Christmas Week

Well, Christmas was a lot of fun, and was really, really busy for us. Where to begin... The entire week was pretty busy, but it got really busy starting Christmas Eve. We spent Christmas Eve down at Scott's parents and my parents, sister & nephew came down as well. It was nice to be able to spend it with both families. Scott's parents addition is pretty much done except for the bathroom and laundry room, so there was plenty of space for everyone. The guys put together a couple of buffet tables before dinner, and it cracked me up watching them put together the second one, because all four of them were gathered around it. Probably doesn't require four guys. Malachi had a good time playing with Scott. He was just crawling all over him and laughing and having a grand old time. He really enjoys spending time with Scott. It always cracks me up.
Scott and I exchanged presents when we got home that night. He got me a laptop bag, a watch and the first four seasons of The Office. He is always sooo good at getting me gifts without me even really telling him what I want. I got him a Tiger Woods picture, a couple of nike golf shirts and some vintage golf balls and tees. It was fun. He did ask for 40 lbs dumb bells, and I failed to get those for him. I kept wondering what I should get, and completely skipped over the obvious thing...
Christmas morning we went up to my parents first thing to see Malachi open his gifts. He actually opened up only the cars that were in his stockings and didn't want to open anything else, he just wanted to go play. How cute that he is not old enough to be greedy on Christmas yet. We seriously had to make him open his presents. That is sweet. I made my mom a gift this year. It was a picture of the temple my parents were married in, in a wide frame that I painted burgundy to match her living room. I also got some vinyl lettering and put,"Mills Family" across the top and "Established July 1, 1978" on the bottom. She loved it. It started out as Scott's idea, getting a picture of the temple they were married in for them (they don't have one), and I kind of took the idea and ran with it. It was the best present I gave this year. Scott was really excited for her to open it too. Good times. The second best gift I gave this year was probably the Willow Tree figures I gave to my sister. It was for sisters and she was really excited about it. I like it when I give gifts that mean a lot to people. It is really fun to see the reaction.
We jetted down to Scott's parents after we opened presents and did the Christmas presents and dinner there. We played games that night. Scott and I bought Imaginiff, and we had a really good time playing with his brother and mom. It was so fun we played it over and over and before we knew it it was midnight and there was no way we were driving home, so stayed the night there.
The next morning we got up and just lounged around for a while, then we went home and got cleaned up and drove back down to help move their new furniture in. It was quite the afternoon. Running around doing errands, picking up furniture, moving it in, mounting their new tv on their bedroom wall. It was freezing and snowing outside, but it was very productive.
That night we headed back up to my parents house just after my sister came in from Rexburg. We had her family for Christmas this year, and it was fun to watch them open their gifts. My nephew was the most excited about his gift, which was a hot wheels track and some cars to go with it. We didn't stay very long that night because Scott had to work the next morning, so we headed home around 9:30.
Saturday morning I must confess I didn't do much. I felt like we were moving moving moving all weekend long, but I actually checked email and looked for a truck on KSL on saturday morning while Scott was at work. He got home around noon and I had not even really moved off the bed in the guest bedroom where I was on the computer. We grabbed some lunch when we got home, then watched Ghost Town. It was pretty good. Scott wanted to get a nap in because for some reason he didn't get any sleep the night before, so we turned on the movie and laid down so he could get some rest. After that we got cleaned up and headed back up to my parents house for Christmas dinner and games. My one niece Brittney all of a sudden took a liking to Scott and would not leave his side the rest of the evening. Not really sure how it happened. She just climbed on to his lap at one point and then partnered up with him for Imaginiff, and then took him everywhere she went. She wouldn't go up for dessert until I asked her if she wanted some if Scott went up too. It was pretty cute. My sister's kids have never really given him the time of day up until now.
Well, that was our weekend. It was crazy busy and we felt like we had little time to rest, but it was fun to spend a lot of time with family. I sometimes feel like I don't have very many close friends, but on weeks like these I realize it doesn't really matter. The family is the most important thing.

Hardwood Floors

I have mentioned before that my in-laws are putting an addition on their house. Well, they are also redoing their living room with the same paint and carpet as the addition. The problem is, under the carpet they had in their living room are beautiful, old, and valuable hardwood floors. Scott and I are just sick over the fact that they are going to cover them up once again. It is so sad. For some reason back in the 50's and 60's they put hardwood floors in everything and then people have covered it with carpet and or linoleum. Did they not understand the value of hardwood back then? Scott and I watch a lot of remodel shows, one of which is flip that house. Every time they find hardwood floors underneath, they refinish them, and it saves them tons of money and they get a nice floor for the house. Scott tried his hardest on Sunday to convince his parents to refinish the hardwood floors and forget about carpeting them. Just carpet the addition. I agree with him, but i know the fight is over, so I didn't say as much. There is a section of the hardwood that is where a wall once was, and doesn't even have a stain on it. So, Scott and I suggested sanding down the entire thing, re-staining, and then refinishing. It would be so pretty! Not going to happen. The more depressing part is, there is hardwood in the kitchen as well, which is covered by linoleum, then covered by laminate. Fake wood on top of linoleum on top of real wood. So sad. Scott and I mourn for the wood. It wants to be seen. It doesn't want to be covered up. The wood is yearning to be refinished and to shine like it once did~

Oil Change

Scott and I have been talking about me learning how to change my oil. My car tells me what the oil life is, and I told Scott it has been telling me it needs an oil change. So Saturday Scott talked me through changing my oil. I got all decked out in coveralls, and I did it all with him basically telling me how to do it and what to do next. It was actually kind of fun. And easy. I was surprised how easy it was. You just unscrew something to let the oil out, change the filter, and put new oil in. Simple. I also checked the level of all my fluids, and Scott showed me how to change the air filter, which we need to do, but Walmart didn't have the one for my car when we went. So that will have to be another time.
I do not like to think of myself as a girly girl, but the only part I didn't like about changing the oil was getting it on my hands. The tub that we drained it into has a drain right in the middle and I didn't pull the plug out completely. So, I ended up having to reach in after the oil was already sitting there to pull it out. That was enjoyable. Anyway, overall, I have come to the conclusion I am never taking my oil to get changed by someone else again. It is too quick and easy for that.

It's Christmas Time

Well, there is no denying that Christmas season is well under way at this point. Life has gotten crazy busy. We finished our Christmas shopping for the most part by the 5th of this month. I had to, I get really stressed out otherwise. I am making a few things, and those aren't completely done yet, but I still have a little bit of time to work on them. This past Friday I put up our Christmas tree and the little bits of decorations I had. There are plenty o presents under the tree. Too bad they are not all for us!
Friday night was my work Christmas party, and it was joyous. It was at the Grand America. Here is our pic at the party. Scott just loves pictures... but isn't he a hottie? I think so.
Anywhoo, we did a white elephant gift exchange, so I ended up with a candle and a stand for it. Then the company gave us a night stay at the Zermatt Resort in Midway and $50 spending money for when we go. I am excited to use that. Not sure when yet. We always put money in to give the owners a gift as well. This year we gave them cash to use towards buying things for people in Africa who are in need where one of the owners is serving a mission. I thought that was a great idea. Put some Christmas money to good use.
Saturday we went down to Scott's parents in Nephi pretty much first thing to help them move furniture. They are putting an addition on their house and they are painting the front room the same color as the addition, so Scott helped move the furniture to the addition (I supervised). They took us to lunch, which is always nice, and then we drove home. In a snowstorm. That was lovely. Scott drove, because he is not nearly as terrified of the snow as I am. We had 2 semis try to run us off the road, but other than that we just went really slow and tried to stay away from the other cars. There were several accidents and slide offs on the way.
After the storm calmed down we ran some errands and then Scott's friend Brett came over with a date and we played games and watched movies, it was really fun. His date was awesome and I hope things work out for them. I really like her, and we are planning on going out with them again this weekend.
Wow, all that for just one weekend, and there is more. Scott's Christmas party was last night at the JSM. I am not sure why, but I got sick. I couldn't really eat the dinner, and I turned down desert. I felt really bad because they paid so much for it, but it was nice to visit with some of the people Scott works with. It was not a bad night overall. My sister came with one of Scott's friends/coworkers, so I had someone I knew really well besides Scott there, and I think that made it a little easier for me.
Tonight, I am going out with a couple of my friends for a little Christmas dinner and gift exchange, and then I am hosting the Christmas Bunco at my house tomorrow night. I still need to get the white elephant gift for that... Can't really decide. Then I think we have nothing planned on Friday (shocker at this point) and another date night Saturday. Then of course next week won't get any slower. But of course I like life like this. Lots of time with friends and family and enjoying the spirit of the season. We remember why we are doing it right? I think with how busy we get, we sometimes forget the reason for the season. I hope I can do better to remember.

Garage

Wow, I am so thankful to have a garage! With all the snow this morning, I am really happy that I did not have to go out in the cold and get the snow off my car so I could see. I started my car a little early to get it warmed up and away I went. No more scraping my windows or brushing snow off or any of that jazz in the morning. Now if only I could park in a garage at work, I would not need my brush/scraper anymore. I guess I can only ask for so much. Hooray for buying a house with a garage! I'm glad it was a must on our list.

Tucker & David

Two names I will never name any of my children. Today in nursery was by far the worst I have ever had in there. Today we were the only couple (the other two decided not to come today, which left us with no lesson and no lesson manual) with 8 three year old children. It was tough to say the least. We took them in to primary for singing time because we are the "sunbeam nursery" and they will all be transitioning in January. Tucker, one of our more independent nursery kids decided he didn't want to be there and tried to leave the primary via the emergency exit several times. Poor Scott had to be the one to deal with him while I tried to watch the rest of the kids. After we went back to nursery it continued to be a crazy day. Tucker and David both are hard kids to deal with. David is obnoxious and has to be played with. He is in constant need of attention. He can't possibly go play with one of the other kids, he has to be right in your face telling you how to play with him and what to play with. During snack time, he wants more, he wants more, more, more. Both David and Tucker during snack time will walk up to the table that I set stuff up on and take whatever it is they want while I am giving something to someone else. That is when they are not saying more more more. Both will say no to me when I say we are doing something. At one point in the day today, five of the little boys were trying to get into the plastic bin we keep the toys in. I actually had to lift Tucker out because he wouldn't get out. He kept saying no, and he continued to try to get back in. I literally had to hold him back from getting back in. We usually take walks for something to break up the day right? Well, during our walk today, one of the kids needed to go to the bathroom, so Scott took him to his mom, that left me with the other 7 kids outside of the classroom. They all started running and the rope they were all holding on to became more of a u shape than a line and by the time I got them all back in order, Scott was back and brought to my attention that I only had 6 kids. I lost one! Tucker had run off. Scott went to go look for him, and actually one of the other parents found him in Elder's Quorum and brought him back to the classroom. Anyway, I probably can't describe on here how awful today was in nursery and how tough it is to deal with all of the older children sometimes. They are old enough to have minds of their own, and ya, usually they are not crying, but they are grabbing things and turning off the light and running out the door. With only two people to deal with eight, it was a tough day. By the end of the day, I was just so stressed out and I couldn't wait for the parents to come.

Life Is Good

Scott and I don't live the most glamorous life in the world. Today I got up and ran on my treadmill while watching Friends (thanks to the new tv/dvd combo Scott bought for us last night). Following my run I soaked in our tub, got ready and went to lunch with Scott. Afterwords we went grocery shopping. As we were driving home from the grocery store, I was thinking life is good. That's it. Simply put, life is good. I can't help but see the many blessings in my life. I have never been happier than I am now. I have an amazing husband, a good job, a nice place to live, and the means to do things I enjoy and Scott enjoys. We have been so blessed. We have so many things in our lives that are good. I am especially blessed to be married to my best friend and the one person who truly gets me. I probably post on this sort of thing altogether too much, but I am just so happy it is hard not to express it. There are ups and downs, there are struggles here and there, but overall, life is good.

Temple Picture

So I think I have mentioned this before, but we have been looking for an awesome Manti Temple picture pretty much since we got married. We have bought one at Orem Summerfest last year, and we got one for a our wedding, but neither are really breathtaking. Well, then we saw the antiqued temple pictures they have a deseret book, but the panorama one we wanted was $300. Ouch! So, we actually found one at another store in the mall that I believe is temporary, and is full of art work. They had a framed temple pic for $80. They didn't have the Manti on hand, but we asked if we could order it in. The guy that helped us said they were more expensive online, but he thought he could get it for us for $80, so we put half down and ordered it. When it came in, it was in a better frame then the one in the store and on the back the price was $199.99. So we love the picture and we got it for more than 50% off! Sweet deal.
Here is what it looks like:
It is not the panoramic one, but I still think it is perfect. I think it would go perfect in our living room because its open to the second story, but Scott is not going to take down his Ben Hogan picture that is basically the main artwork down there, so I let him have his way for now, but when we move into a detached house years from now, it is gonna have to be the main picture in our living room!

Speak Out Against Abortion

Disclaimer: This is a touchy subject. If you are easily offended or if you are too close to this subject, I would suggest skipping this post.

With the current election and a few other items of information I have recently received concerning abortion I feel like I just need to speak out against it. I am amazed that people are "pro-choice." It should be a woman's decision to murder her unborn child? Are people completely inhumane and heartless these days? I am very much against abortion. The choice you have is to not get pregnant. If you are having sex unprotected and without any sort of birth control, that is the choice you made, and you should have to deal with the consequences. I am appalled by something I just learned of called partial-birth abortion. Wikipedia's definition of partial-birth abortion is:

An abortion in which the person performing the abortion, deliberately and intentionally vaginally delivers a living fetus until, in the case of a head-first presentation, the entire fetal head is outside the body of the mother, or, in the case of breech presentation, any part of the fetal trunk past the navel is outside the body of the mother, for the purpose of performing an overt act that the person knows will kill the partially delivered living fetus; and performs the overt act, other than completion of delivery, that kills the partially delivered living fetus.

I am admitting my ignorance in that I didn't know Bush made this illegal in 2003, and I didn't know that Obama intends on signing the Freedom of Choice Act which will make this legal again as well as abolishing all restrictions and limitations to a woman having an abortion.
What is this world coming to? How corrupt is our nation and how heartless are these women? What gives anyone the right to murder a helpless fetus before it is even able to breathe fresh air? My sister sent me a link to a petition to fight the Freedom of Choice Act which I readily signed and actually spurred this post. Please sign it if you feel the way I do. We need to protect the sanctity of procreation and motherhood. There are plenty of women out there that would love to be mothers and cannot get pregnant. Why abort babies that could give these mothers that opportunity?

Twilight Movie

Ok, so some people may hate me for this post, but I am entitled to my own opinion. The Twilight movie was a HUGE disappointment. I went to the movie planning on being disappointed just so I might be pleasantly surprised. I hate when they turn books into movies and change the story line. It really bothers me. This movie jumped around a lot, took out details, and added in really retarded cheesy details. I realize they couldn't follow the book exactly because the book is long, but if you are going to cut content out because of length don't add in random cheesy crap that isn't in the book to begin with. The story line was chopped up and randomly placed, and I just felt like it could have been so much better had it followed the actual story and not replaced things or put them in the wrong order. There was a lot of missing character development and details from the book, and I didn't understand why they didn't do that rather than adding in scenes that were not a part of the story. It just got frustrating. And, unfortunately the a lot of the acting was very poor. The main characters were good, and actually most of the high school kids were really good, but the rest of the Cullen family wasn't very good, and the Quilettes weren't good either. I have heard quite a few people say the really liked it, but to me I expected it to be bad and it was worse. I probably will see it again, and maybe it will grow on me as time goes. There were a lot of people in the theater that were laughing and going ooooh at the cheesy parts and that kind of made it harder to like it as well. Maybe some of you are thinking I am being to hard on it, because they change story lines when they turn books into movies, but they didn't much with Harry Potter and look how well it has done. Harry Potter they cut out content, but didn't replace it with new stuff. The only changes they made were possibly in dialog, who said what. It can be done and Twilight had such huge potential.

Nice Friday Afternoon Visit

Friday afternoon I went to West Valley to visit one of my good friends from high school. It was really nice because we rarely see each other and I really enjoyed being able to catch up on how life is for her. It was so nice to visit with a friend that has known me for quite sometime and be able to see how much both of us have changed for the better and yet we are still able to talk for hours without ever having the strange awkwardness that sometimes presents itself when you haven't really talked in person for a while. It does help that we keep in touch through email regularly. Really what I realized is while I don't put friends as a priority in my life anymore, I still have friends I can connect with and who still like me despite my many imperfections. It turned out to be a really nice afternoon and I was glad I went to visit. We should do it more often!

Busy, busy, busy

Does anyone else ever feel like there are so many things to do with so little time? I work 4 ten hour days and then when I get home at night all I want to do is hang out with Scott. So my normal night goes like this. Get home around 6:30. Either work out for 30 min or start making dinner, eat dinner, clean up dinner, watch a movie or a little TV with Scott, go to bed around 8:30 and read while Scott lays on me until I get tired enough to turn out the light. Get up at 5:30 and do it again. So my day to do all of the many projects that I would love to be doing? Friday. Know what I normally do on Fridays? Clean. It is important for our house to be clean right? Saturdays consist of running errands and doing things with family and usually going on a date that night, Sundays church and just hanging around together. So there you go. Leaves me no time to paint and decorate my aesthetically challenged bedroom. No time to frame some pictures of family or of our wedding and put them up. No time to paint the golf bathroom green. I am happy that my life is so full and I am busy a lot. That is always a good thing. I like to be out and about, but when am I going to get my wedding scrapbook done? I don't know what my point is, I just wanted to vent my feelings of frustration with my many undone projects I would like to be working on. And one more thing, somehow when we bought our house I didn't factor in the ability to decorate it. It is hard! I want to do so many things and I have so many ideas, but the lack of money and the lack of really cool and creative ideas holds me back. The End.

Think Pink

Friday night Grizzlies Hockey was Breast Cancer Awareness Night. I am a huge advocate for the fight against breast cancer, so of course I wanted to go.We went and we were so happy we did. It was a really awesome game. The Grizzlies wore pink jersey's and played on pink ice. I don't love the color pink, but it was really cool looking. They were playing the Ontario Reign. Ontario scored twice in the first period and the score stayed 2-0 until the last 3 minutes. Then the Grizzlies scored around 2:45 left. I was pretty sure they were still going to lose because they had just under 3 min to score again. They scored again with about 27 seconds to go. They went in to over time and then into a shoot out and the Grizzlies won! It was awesome. We sat right behind the opposing team and it was really funny to listen to some of the die hard fans taunt the other team and yell at the coach. I also was privileged to see a guy who had gotten hit in the junk get off the ice and reach down his pants to adjust. It was quite lovely. Anyway, we enjoyed the game so much we decided to go again the next night. That game was a little more intense and we sat right on the ice. They lost 6-5, but still lots of fun. Hmm, Scott and I may have a new hobby!

Snow

I just have to have my first rant of the snow season. There may be more to come. Who knows. While snow is extremely beautiful, and the intricacy of detail on each snowflake amazes me, I am not a big fan of snow. Mostly because I don't like driving in it. I don't like being cold because of it. If I can cozy up in a blanket and watch a movie while it snows outside, then snow away, but driving to work in the dark and in the snow, not so much fun. Ok, you may be saying, it wasn't that bad this morning, and it wasn't. But I know it will be. I am sure I will have many a morning where I drive 25 mph on the freeway and some people speed on past in their four wheel drive trucks that they think will never slide and others are putting along slamming on their breaks every two seconds. Its quite lovely. And basically this rant is to say, here we go folks! Winter is upon us! Well, for those of us in Utah anyway. The exciting part is, that means Christmas is coming!

Vacation Week

This week has been extremely busy and a lot of fun. Scott and I have decided to take our anniversary week off every year, and this of course was our first. It has been a really nice week. I need to figure out how to hang out with Scott and go play every day and still bring in money... Monday Scott and I had hit Temple Square and wandered around for a while and visited both of the visitors centers. We kept getting offers from the missionaries serving there to give us tours. I wonder if they thought we weren't members. Here are a couple pictures I got of the Salt Lake Temple.

After our walk around temple square (which I got blisters from because I was wearing heels, we went to a bed and breakfast up Ogden Canyon called Alaskan Inn. We stayed in our own little personal cabin and it was really cool except Scott and I were pretty sure it was haunted because we heard all sorts of weird noises all night long and the cabins are not old. Neither of us slept very well. Overall it was pretty nice.
The next morning, we drove further up Ogden Canyon just to see what we could see and then headed back down I-15 toward home. Scott took a detour up Parley's Canyon and we went to the outlet stores in Park City. We decided we need to do most of Christmas shopping up there. We found some really sweet deals. After Park City we headed home.
Wednesday, we headed down to Manti. We haven't found a picture of the Manti temple that we love yet, so we went down to attempt to take some of our own. We drove the scenic route through Spanish Fork canyon and Scott took me through some little towns I had never been to before. I really enjoy seeing historic homes and landmarks and stuff like that. I think it is so cool, so it was really fun to drive through a bunch of the cities that have a lot of that stuff around still. Once we got to Manti, I took loads of pictures. Here are a few that I liked.
We will see if I end up actually printing any of them. After Manti, we headed to Nephi to use a gift card from our wedding (ya we are a little slow) and found a few cute things to decorate our house with. It was actually kind of hard to use the gift card. They didn't have a lot of options because they had a lot of holiday decorations, and I am just not interested in that right now. I need to get basic decorations first! We basically spent the rest of the day with Scott's fam in Nephi.
Thursday, we ran some errands and basically cleaned up because I was heading out of town today. Scott put up some blinds in our bedroom window and it looks so much nicer now than with just the curtains we had up earlier. Now we can actually open the curtains.
Today I flew out to Vancouver, WA (where I grew up) for my nieces baptism. My sister that lives in Idaho decided to come up as well, and everyone went out trick or treating tonight. It was kind of fun to have them all together, but really wild. Um, I was too lazy to rotate these and then re-add them to the blog, so tilt your head. Haha.

They have so much fun together. Tomorrow is the baptism. I am sure it will be really cool to have the entire family here for it. Too bad Scott couldn't come. He is the only one missing. We decided we couldn't afford for both of us to come up right now tho. Oh well... maybe next time.

Happy Anniversary Scott!

Today is our one year anniversary! I can't believe the past year has gone by so quickly. It always seems like we just barely got married. Today is such a beautiful day, much like the day we got married. This past year has been the happiest year of my life by far. I have been blessed with an amazing husband. He takes such good care of me and makes me better person. He does such a good job of making me feel special and letting me know he loves me. He does a lot of the cleaning around the house and never slacks when there is something to be done. He is my best friend and the one I want to spend all of my time with. He is my favorite person to be around and he gets better every day. I don't know how I got so lucky. I am so happy! I hope the rest of our years together will be as awesome as this first year has been.

Nursery

Scott and I got called to the nursery in our new ward about a month ago. They split the nursery for the fourth time in our humongous ward of mostly young families. I wasn't sure how I felt about it for the first little bit, and I have to admit I am still getting used to it. I am the youngest in my family and never really babysat much. Even when I did, I just wanted the kids to go to bed so I could watch TV by myself. Scott on the other hand is really good with kids and they just seem to naturally like him. I always feel awkward trying to play with them and stuff. So needless to say, it has been an interesting few weeks. We do have another couple in there with us, which we probably would have died without, but they asked me to do the lesson this week. I don't even think all wards try to accomplish a lesson. I studied the manual and the supplement and I made handouts and everything. Well all that prep work and only 4 of the 12 active kids where there today because of fall break and they only have an attention span of 30 seconds. Nice. I have to say I am feeling a little more dedicated to the calling, but it is going to be a tough one for me for sure. I know so many girls who would love to be in this calling and think it is easy, but for me it just isn't. I admire those who are naturally good with children. I don't know if this calling will convince me I am ready to have kids or get the feeling I have now which is I am so not ready. I guess only time will tell! Good thing I have Scott in there with me or I am pretty sure I would have a really hard time handling it!

Wedding Flowers

Today I did wedding flowers for a good friend of mine at work and I was really pleased with the outcome. I couldn't get all of the flowers she wanted because of the time of year, but I think the bouquet turned out really nicely. I basically only did a bouquet and corsages and bouts, but it was I think they were perfect for the reception and the look she was going for. Here are some pictures of the bouquet and of her reception. I didn't get any pics of the corsages because I thought it might be weird considering people I didn't know where wearing them. Good times. Weddings are so fun. I love doing flowers and actually getting to see them at the reception. Oh and p.s. the picture doesn't actually show the bird cage as good as it looked. They were hanging from the ceiling and weren't actually resting on the table.

Not a way to win over the neighbors

Part of our day Saturday was spent cleaning. I cleaned out our fridge, and while I was doing that, Scott was vacuuming our house and taking care of some of the laundry. Scott turned on some music upstairs while he was folding the laundry. A few minutes later, our new next door neighbor comes over and tells us that she can hear the base through the wall and it vibrates the room and it can be kind of bothersome. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!! The stereo is not even against her wall. Granted, it could be coming through, but it was 6:30. It's not like we were keeping her from sleeping or anything. Also, it wasn't even up that loud. Scott used to turn on the music while he was getting ready in the morning, and he stopped doing that when she moved in. He was trying to be considerate, but apparently, it wasn't good enough. Since we own our townhouse, there is absolutely jack crap she can do about it and now we don't like her. Nice huh? She was just so uppity and rude about it. Oh and one more thing. Her car was parked right in front of our house for most of the afternoon. Why would you do that? She parked in front of our house and then walked over to hers? I don't get it. That is something that has always bothered me. Don't park in front of my house when there is no one in front of yours, or in your garage for that matter!!! Well, there is my ranting. We do not live in an apartment anymore, and I am not going to let some little beast think she can control us. When you live in town homes, you put up with a little noise. If you don't like it, you should have bought a house!

Dinners

Ok, so I love to cook and make new things, but it has been surprisingly difficult to come up with meals since we got married. I started cooking for Scott every Sunday while we were engaged and we established a pattern of the same dinners over and over. That pattern has continued. One of the challenges I have had is finding dinners we both like. Scott likes red meat and I am not the biggest fan. I don't even eat a lot of meat anymore. Scott doesn't like rice or beans, and I actually enjoy both. Also, Scott likes really simple food. Lasagna, roast, hamburgers, spaghetti, turkey roast, ham & potatoes, you get the picture. Well, last night I added a dinner to the list. Chicken Cordon Bleu. I had never made it before, but Scott saw some at a grocery store that had bacon wrapped around it and I decided to try it. It was super easy and I didn't even need a recipe. It turned out so good! It was very tasty and both of us enjoyed it. It's hard to find a lot of things we both like! So exciting! Much to my sadness, I didn't think to take a picture of my masterpiece until after we were in the middle of eating. But Scott did say it looked professional. Hooray!

My Blessings

So, I guess this is kind of belated, but I really enjoyed LDS General Conference this year. I missed Saturday because of the craziness of our weekend, but I recorded the afternoon session and I will be watching it. Sunday was really good tho. I am amazed at President Monson and how different he seems now that he is the prophet. Maybe its partly him and maybe its partly the spirit testifying that he is the a prophet of God that makes the change so obvious. Can you believe he is 81? He definitely doesn't look it, but the Lord sustains his servants! Anyway, in his talk Sunday morning he talked about focusing on the abundance in our lives (can't quote exactly, I will definitely need to read it in the Ensign). I just wanted to take a minute to recognize the abundance in my life and count my blessings. In no particular order:
  • I am so very grateful for my eternal marriage to my amazing husband who takes such good care of me and shows his love for me daily. I am constantly grateful for his presence in my life and how he helps me to grow as a person.
  • I am grateful to have the job I do. No its not my dream job, but its a good job and the I couldn't wish to work for a better company. They are very good to us and you can really tell they care about their employees.
  • I am grateful for my family. My brother and my sisters who I may not always get along with, but have helped shape who I am in subtle ways. And my cute little nieces and nephews that can put a smile on your face so very easily. Also, for my parents and for their support and love through the years.
  • I am grateful for technology. That I can fly to Washington to visit my brother's family in just a couple of hours, and drive to see my sister in a few hours rather than it taking days on a horse drawn carriage. Also, that I can store pictures on my computer, write posts like this, and keep in contact with friends and family in mere seconds via email, phone, text, etc.
  • I am grateful that I can run. I have a love hate relationship with it, but I am grateful that I can do it if I choose. That my body functions and I have no serious physical ailments.
  • I am grateful for flowers, and my talent and ability to do floral design. That I have the creativity to create something even more beautiful out of already beautiful flowers. I am grateful for the training I have had in that area and the experience I have been able to acquire.
  • I am grateful for school and higher education. It is such a pain while you are going (I will be in that boat again in spring), but it is a really useful tool in doing what you want to with your life and achieving your goals and dreams. It is awesome that we have the option to always be learning more and growing intellectually.
  • I am grateful for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, that I am a member of it, and it was restored to the earth. That I can attend every Sunday and be uplifted and grow on the spiritual side of my life. I am grateful for the knowledge I have of God and His Son Jesus Christ and His sacrifice. I am so grateful for the atonement and my knowledge of it, so I can use it in my life.
  • I am grateful for the home I live in and the great community I live in. I, unlike some, actually do enjoy living in a highly mormon populated community. It has its downfalls, but I do enjoy the culture and safety of it. If I am sheltered, so be it.

There are probably so many more things I could be grateful for, but I might be typing all day long...What are you grateful for?

Sickness

So Scott has been sick with a really bad cold since around Thursday, and sometime Saturday night I came down with a stomach bug. So we spent most of our weekend laying around feeling crappy together. I hate it. It is so boring to be sick. I would really like to go to work today, but every time I stand up I feel so dizzy and weak, there is no way I can go. There is just really nothing to do. The options are sit around and watch tv or get up and do something and throw up. And Scott doesn't throw up, but he is just as weak and feels just as awful in different ways. It's been really fun! Hopefully we get over this stuff soon!

King Size Bed

I am pretty sure Scott and I need a kind size bed. We have been married just shy of a year and he still can't sleep at night. A lot of people said we would get used it it and we just couldn't sleep because we weren't used to having someone else in the bed. It got better for me, but not for him. Every time I move, it wakes him up. It is so frustrating to wake up in the morning and have him tell me that I kept him up all night. Boo. Mostly I just move a lot when I sleep and he is kind of a light sleeper. We also both like to spread out and that makes things difficult as well. When we were on our honeymoon we slept in a king size bed and we slept fine. We are definitely thinking that is the solution. So here is to some day having a king size bed when we have the money and want to move the bed we have now, which is not that old, into the spare room.

RS General Broadcast

This post is mostly for me, but if you would like to, read on.
Last night was the Relief Society General Broadcast and it was so good. President Dieter F Uchtdorf
was the concluding speaker and he spoke on something I definitely needed to hear, and I am sure a lot of females have a problem with. He started out talking about how his wife will make these grand dinners and yet still point out small things that she could have done differently. And he makes eggs and feels heroic. He points out that women tend to focus too much on our imperfections rather than what we have accomplished. He said that comes from our desire to serve the Lord to the best of our abilities. I was amazed at how right on he was. I expect perfection from myself and perfection is just not possible. I am pretty sure I am not the only female that beats myself up over my imperfections rather than focusing on the things I have accomplished. He spoke of two things we can do to feel better and focus on accomplishment. Creativity and compassion. He explained that creating means making something that did not exist before. It could be memories or a garden or a feeling. He told us not to let the fear of failure discourage us. I know I let that discourage me a lot. On the compassion side he said those how bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves. As we serve our lives are brighter. I really enjoyed his talk and it came at a time that I actually really needed it. I was really glad that I went and walked away with such a great feeling. He is definitely an inspired servant of the Lord. One of the concluding comments he made was,"Greatness has little to do with outward prosperity or position." As women and as perfectionists, we would all do well to remember that.

My laptop

I am proud to say I am writing this post from my very own laptop! I have wanted a laptop for quite some time now, probably since I was in high school. I was offered a sweet deal when my friend Colleen wanted to sell her laptop and now it's mine! I can't even express how exciting it is to me. Granted I haven't done much with it yet since I just picked it up a few hours ago, but I am excited to use it as a great tool to grow my business. Once I get my pictures on it and get my spreadsheets set up, it will be great to take to a consultation and make the whole thing easier. Hooray! I am finally a grown up with a laptop. And not only a laptop, but it is actually my very first decent computer that belongs to me. The last one I had was a hand me down and older than the hills, but I was glad to have it because I needed one for school at BYUI. So hooray for owning a good computer!

I've been tagged...

Courtney tagged me. Here are the rules:
Link the person who tagged you.
Tell about 6 quirks of yours.
Tag 6 fellow bloggers to do the same.
Leave a comment to let them know.

1. I love to watch America's Next Top Model, which is weird because I don't want to be a model and I can't stand self-obssessed Tyra Banks. I just really like to see how different the girls look in the pictures than they do in real life.

2. I absolutely love cinnamon & sugar. I put cinnamon and sugar on pancakes, waffles, crepes, even ice cream. If its sweet, it can probably have cinnamon and sugar on it. Gooey cinnamon rolls are my favorite desert ever. Hard to get them really gooey, but when they are, mmmmm.

3. I like a lot of food seperate, but I don't like it together. Example: I enjoy nuts. I like to eat them if it is just nuts, but if you put nuts in anything, it disgusts me. I don't like to eat something soft and have to crunch on a nut. Same thing with raisins and bananas. I hate cinnamon rolls with raisins, but I really enjoy them plain. I like bananas plain, but not in smoothies or anything. But I still enjoy banana bread. How weird is that?

4. I am really outgoing and kind of have a red personality in a situation I am comfortable with, but if I am around a lot of people I don't know or out of my element, I am extremly shy and will try to fade into the background. I also hate to make comments in work meetings or in church classes with more than a few people. I actually feel the heat of my face turning red and my heart beats really fast.

5. I really like the color black(not really a color is it?). A lot of my wardrobe consists of black and white. I had a black and white wedding. I have black counter tops. I drive a black car. We have black couches, and a black kitchen table. Lucky for me, my husband likes black as well. It just looks so clean and sharp. And in clothes its very slimming. I enjoy black very much.

6. I am afraid of my own shadow. I am afraid of the dark. I am afraid of being home alone. I peak out of the shower curtain if I am showering when Scott isn't home. I will jump if Scott is home and he comes up behind me. I refuse to run in the dark, and to be honest, I don't like to run outside alone at all, because every sound I hear is something that might get me. Its great.

I tag everyone on my blog list besides Courtney... I think that is six.

Cute Little Nephew

Last night I stopped by my parent's house on my way home from work and my cute little nephew Malachi wanted to know where Scott was. I told him he was at home, and I asked it he wanted to come. And he did. I was a little surprised because he wanted his mom and grandma to come too, but after they said no he came anyway. We loaded up my car with plenty of his toys and I took him down to see "Cott." As soon as we got into the garage Malachi kept saying Scott's name over and over and Scott opened the door to the house before I even got Malachi out of the car. I took Malachi out front to ride his trike for a little bit, and then I told him to turn around so we could go get Scott. When we got back to the front porch, he ran to Scott and gave him a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. It was so adorable. He played at our house for about an hour and a half and apparently had a really good time, because when my dad came to get him, he wanted to stay. Eventually he did, without a fit thankfully, and we told him he could come again sometime. It was a really fun night and I was so glad Scott helped as much as he did and played with him as much as he did so I could get dinner started for me and feed Malachi. It was really fun to borrow a cute kid for the evening. Sorry, I don't have any current pictures. This is him at my wedding, so its almost a year old, but look how cute he is! I need to start taking more so I have more than my boring stories on my posts.

New Doctor

So I guess I am going to have a couple of posts today. It has been a while since I had much of anything to say! For those of you who don't know, I have had a few health issues that have started within the past couple of years. The most major being that I can't handle going without food for longer than three hours without feeling like I am going to pass out. I start sweating, shaking and seeing black spots. Its really enjoyable. When Scott and I went to the Utah Golf Championship, I had to eat an entire pack of starbursts and a package of almonds at two different times to feel ok because we didn't eat lunch out there.
So anyway, I have gone to 3 different doctors and they all said my blood work was normal. Sweet, so its just something I have to deal with right? No. I finally got a recommendation for a good doctor that will actually work with you to fix your health problems rather than just treating the blood work. It took me 2 1/2 months to get in to see him, but I am so glad I waited. I had a couple of other issues to discuss with him, and basically everything I have ever complained about, including acne (which I didn't even bring up) is related to my condition. I have a insulin imbalance where my body produces too much rather than too little. The reason why I almost pass out without food is because the excess insulin causes my blood sugar to be high for a little while and then completely drop off and I feel awful and have to eat. Crazy huh? It also is the reason why I can't lose weight (not a lot of people my weight run marathons). I am so glad that a doctor finally figured out what is wrong and wants to fix it! Not only that, but he monitors his patients on a regular basis to make sure the drugs are working as they should and will switch you off drugs and on to supplements as soon as he can. Awesome huh? He doesn't just try to give you drugs and think that is going to fix it. He actually wants to make it so you don't need the drugs. No wonder he takes so long to get in to see. He is a one of a kind doctor!

Old Friends

Last Friday I was able to go to lunch with an old room mate from BYU-Idaho. I had not seen her for a few years and that is really sad because she only live in SLC. I had a really nice time visiting with her, and catching up on her life. It is always really nice to get in touch with old friends and see what they are up to and how life has changed for them. I always enjoy talking about other old friends that we used to know and what they are up to as well. It was a good time. We definitely need to do it more often!
I also went to a baby shower of an old friend from high school. I haven't seen her in a lot longer, but thought it might be fun to go and see how things were for her and everything. She looked so cute with her pregnant belly and she apparently got a lot of really great gifts. People kept saying how much she would love this or that, or how often she would use the gift. So, since I don't have experience as a mom, I will have to take all of their word for it...

Running

So I have always had a love hate relationship with running. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it. Over the weekend, I have decided I love it again. I was doing a lot of reading in my runners world magazine, then Saturday morning I met up with my friend Colleen who is training for the St George marathon (which sadly I did not get into). I was supposed to just run 5 1/2 to 6 miles with her, but we were having such a nice conversation I decided to finish the run with her, which put me at 9 1/2 to 10 miles. I don't know the exact mileage from where I parked. Anyway, it was actually a really nice I run. I was surprised I was able to run that far and still feel ok. I am now totally committed to getting back in condition for distance running. I want to re-run the Salt Lake Marathon next spring and beat my time (which won't be hard since I didn't have good training the first time around). I am really excited to get back in shape and feel good running again. Hooray!

Never Say Never

I have noticed recently that a lot of the things I said I would never do, I have done. Nothing major, but if I criticize something I don't like in other people and say I would never do that, I end up doing it. I once said (like 6 years ago) I could never date Scott because I would think he loved his car more than me. Well obviously I did date him and he doesn't love his car more than me. I was also really adamant about people who get married and drop off the face of the earth and how annoying it was because, hello, the person you marry you get to spend eternity with, you can spend some time with the girls from time to time. And I vowed I would still have girl time when I got married. But that was before I got married. I can't stand to be away from Scott now. I have a really hard time leaving him home and going out with someone else. The whole time I miss him and think about him. I actually understand the reason why people disappear. Once upon a time I also said I would never drive a Civic. Well, that is what I am currently leasing. Why? Because its a good quality car with good gas mileage. Basically, I need to learn that saying I will never do something, its bad news. It will always come back to bite me in the butt. Maybe I need to start saying I will never do something I would really like to, then it might happen. Who knows...

Weddings

I just have to say I am extremely amazed at how much people charge for wedding services! I have a friend that is getting married and just talking to her about how much one lady wants to charge for a super simple cake is amazing to me!!! Why can people get away with that crap? I actually got really good deals on everything I used for my wedding, but I had a lot of time to plan and I did a lot of research. It just makes me sad that people are getting ripped off so badly on their weddings. Shouldn't you feel bad doing that to someone on their wedding day? I had a vendor who kept my deposit. It was actually one of my cake ladies. The cake I had for my Nephi reception was sub-par and when I returned her glass to her, she told me she would mail my $60 deposit. After several un-returned voice mails, I finally gave up on it. Some people should be ashamed of themselves!!! My other cake however I can not rave enough about. She gave me an amazing price and an amazing cake. Her website is www.onesweetslice.com. On that note, I have to put in a plug for my own business. I try my very best to give fair pricing and almost always beat the competition pricing, unless its a friend who is just buying the flowers wholesale and throwing them together. I have actual design experience and the very best prices. If you know anyone who is getting married, here is my website: www.allocassionfloraldesign.com. I don't have all my pictures up yet, but I will soon. So there you go. I want to do my part in helping someone not get ripped off on their wedding!

Utah Championship

Saturday Scott and I decided to go watch the Utah Championship golf tournament which is part of the Nationwide Tour. We sat at the first hole and watched quite a few of the players come through and when Clay Ogden of SLC came through, we decided to watch his round. It was a lot of walking, I will tell you that. But also, he is a really good golfer. We really enjoyed watching him. I think we will definitely be seeing more of him in the future and hopefully on the PGA tour. But he has some work to do to get there. He will turn 24 this month, so he has plenty of time. He finished tied for 8th and went home with $14,300. Not bad. We picked out his family after a few holes and I have to say his brother was a bit annoying. He would say, "Good job, dog," or "Good putt, dog," after everything he did. It got pretty annoying after a while. Apparently Clay also goes by Dog.

Ok, so here was the funniest part of the day, Clay was partnered with this guy, Kris Blanks. He is 13th on the Nationwide Tour money list, meaning if the stays there, he will be in the top 25 and he will get an exemption on the PGA tour next year. He started the day at 7 under par and finished the day at even I believe. He had a really rough day. After one of the holes he made bogey on, he came through the ropes right where Scott and I were to head to the next hole. For some reason, he decided to be friendly and ask Scott how he was. Scott automatically replies with,"Good, how are you?" Kris says, "Just great," in a pretty sarcastic tone. It was really really funny, and I am pretty sure I am not explaining it well enough, but I started laughing so hard after he past us because seriously, he wasn't doing too well. We could see that. How are you? is not exactly something that needed to be asked, but how many of us have that programmed response? What else was Scott supposed to say. Good times.
All in all, it was a fun thing to do and we will probably go watch again next year. We both got burnt pretty badly, so there are a few things we will need to bring, like sunscreen, but it was definitely an enjoyable day. Nice job, dog!

Friends

Last Christmas Scott bought me the entire friends series. I didn't follow the show too well when the new episodes were on, although I did watch it from time to time and thought it was really funny. I started watching re-runs in the last couple of years and decided I would like to watch them in order, which was the reason for the great gift from my hubby! I am loving watching it! It is so freakin funny. It is one of those shows you can just sit down and watch when you have had a bad day and it cheers you right up. Last night Scott went golfing with his buddies and got home late. So I went home after work, made myself some dinner, and watched Friends. It was divine. It's the simple things in life~

Fried Zucchini

This is my first attempt at fried zucchini. I never had zucchini growing up and the first time I realized I liked it was at Red Robin when I had it for an appetizer. So I tried to get a recipe that sounded similar, but only like three of those were edible. They were too bready, which caused the zucchini on the inside to be not quite as cooked as it should have been. The three that were cooked right tasted good, but I am just wondering... does anyone have a batter fried zucchini recipe that is amazing?

My friend Courtney tagged me so here it is! The rules are you have to take 10 pictures of the following things and you have to do it right away. No straightening, cleaning or wiping your child's nose (I mean it!). Then you tag six others.
1. Kitchen Sink: I actually just loaded the dishwasher the day before and we hadn't started dinner yet so it was relatively clean....
2. What the kids are doing?: I don't have kids, so here are my golf clubs. Why my golf clubs? Because I love my bag.

3. Bathroom: I have three, so I should have tried taking a picture of one that was actually clean, but this is the main one Scott and I use and its horrible! Its on my list to clean on Friday when I am off work.
4. Self-Portrait: Not an amazing picture, my husband has a hard time with my camera, so it took a while to take the picture and I ended up with a fake smile.5. Fridge: Something that is actually clean!6. My closet: My clothes on the right, Scott's on the left. He has almost as many as I do. 7. Laundry Room: not so much of a room as it is a closet. This is Scott's domain. He does all of the laundry. The most I do is move something from the washer to dryer or fold. 8. Favorite Room: I absolutely love my kitchen! It is my room to do with what I want. Too bad all of it wasn't as clean as my sink...9. Favorite Shoes: Aren't they cute? I just wish I had more brown clothes to wear them with.10. I don't have one specific dream vacation spot, but this is a picture of the tulips in the Netherlands. I have the dream to one day go to Alsmeer and see the biggest flower auction in the world.
Hmm, tag six others? Do I even have six friends that blog? Colleen, Camila, Sarah, Amy, Cali, or anyone else I don't know has a blog and reads this.

Farewell to Summer

On the golf course last night I realized summer is really going to end and soon. It is getting dark earlier and staying dark longer. The temperature is cooling down just a bit (I said a bit for those of you who are still hot). Summer is coming to a close. It is so very sad. It seemed like it flew right by us without us even noticing. Sure we have done quite a few activities outside, but I still feel like I didn't fully enjoy summer like I should have. Every year when summer comes to a close I feel sadness and the impending doom of the winter months. At least we get to enjoy fall first! So this is my farewell to summer. I will miss the fireworks, I will miss the carnivals, the rodeos, demolition derbies, the golf, the laying out on the grass and reading a book. I will miss the warmth. Don't leave too soon summer. I will cherish every moment I have left with you until next year.
